Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing the Fendi Mon Tresor Mini for a while now. I mean, who hasn’t? It’s like, the cutest little bucket bag ever. But, you know, it’s Fendi, so it’s not exactly cheap. I figured, why not try to make my own version? A little DIY project, you know? Save some cash and have a unique piece. Plus, I’ve been getting into crafting lately, so this seemed like the perfect challenge.
First thing I did was gather my materials. I found some nice black leather scraps from a previous project, and I also picked up some black mesh fabric from a local store. I already had the basic tools like a leather punch, needles, and thread. The most important part, of course, was figuring out the pattern.
I spent a good few hours just looking at pictures of the Mon Tresor online. I studied how the leather panels were shaped, how the mesh was integrated, and the overall dimensions. I sketched out a rough pattern on some paper, then I transferred it to the leather and mesh. Cutting everything out was a bit nerve-wracking, I won’t lie. You gotta be precise, especially with leather.
Next up was assembling the pieces. Stitching leather is a bit of a workout, but it’s so satisfying seeing it come together. I carefully stitched the leather panels to form the base and the top part of the bag. Then I incorporated the mesh, which was a little tricky, but I managed to get it looking pretty neat. The drawstring closure was the next hurdle. I used a thick leather cord and some metal eyelets to create a functional and decent-looking closure. And then came the handle.
I decided to go with a detachable handle because the original Mon Tresor also has one. I braided some leather strips to make a sturdy handle. Then attached some metal rings to the bag and the handle so I could easily remove it if I wanted to. I also added a longer, adjustable strap so I could wear it crossbody.
Honestly, it took me a whole weekend to finish the bag. There were moments of frustration, for sure. But when I finally saw the finished product, it was all worth it. It’s not an exact replica, obviously, but it definitely captures the vibe of the Mon Tresor. It’s got that same cute, bucket shape, the mix of leather and mesh, and it’s the perfect size for carrying my essentials.
