Alright, so I saw this fancy bag online, the Yves Saint Laurent YSL June Box Bag. I ain’t one for spendin’ big bucks on a bag, but I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” And let me tell ya, it was a journey.
First, I had to figure out what this YSL thing even was. Turns out, it’s some French luxury brand, started back in ’61. They call it Saint Laurent or YSL, whatever floats your boat. Me? I just call it a challenge. So, I started by lookin’ up pictures of this June Box Bag. It’s a little black thing, all quilted and neat, with a long strap to hang off your shoulder.
Now, I ain’t no expert in makin’ bags, but I’ve dabbled in sewin’ a bit. I grabbed some black leather I had lying around. And as I didn’t have real lambskin, I just used regular leather. Close enough, right? I cut it up into pieces, following a rough sketch I made. It wasn’t perfect, but it was somethin’. The quiltin’ was the tricky part. I tried my best to make those little diamond shapes, but let me tell you, it ain’t as easy as it looks on those fancy bags. It took me a while, and a lot of mess-ups, but I got there eventually.
- Cut the leather: I made a basic pattern and cut out the pieces. Front, back, sides, bottom, and the flap.
- Quilting: This was tough. I marked out the diamond pattern and sewed along the lines. It’s not perfect, but it’s got that quilted look.
- Assemble the bag: Sewed the sides to the front and back, then attached the bottom. It’s startin’ to look like a bag!
- Add the flap: Sewed the flap on, makin’ sure it lined up right.
- The strap: I used an old strap from another bag and attached it. I used some rivets and metal rings to make sure it was secure.
After that, it was all about puttin’ it all together. Sewin’ the pieces, makin’ sure it all lined up. It was a bit wonky in places, but hey, it’s handmade! I even added a little metal piece I found to make it look a bit more like the real deal.
The End Result
It ain’t a perfect copy, not by a long shot. But it’s my version of that YSL June Box Bag. And you know what? I’m pretty proud of it. It’s got character, it’s got flaws, but it’s mine. And it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg, which is always a plus. It’s a reminder that you don’t need to spend a fortune to have somethin’ nice. Sometimes, makin’ it yourself is way more satisfyin’. And who knows, maybe I’ll get into this bag-makin’ thing. I’m really proud of what I made.
