Hey everyone, today I’m going to share my experience of remaking the Yves Saint Laurent YSL JUNE BOX BAG. Yeah, that classic style everyone’s been raving about. I’ve always loved the look of this bag, but let’s be real, the price tag is a bit much for my wallet. So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? Let’s dive in!
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to gather all the materials. I found a decent leather supplier online – nothing too fancy, just something that looked and felt good enough. I also ordered some metal hardware, like buckles and clasps, from a craft store. They weren’t exactly the same as the original YSL ones, but hey, they did the job. I mean, it is not that easy to find those original ones. Once I had everything, I laid it all out on my work table. It felt like I was about to perform surgery or something, haha!
The Cutting and Sewing
Next up, cutting the leather. This was probably the most nerve-wracking part. I used a pattern I drafted based on pictures of the bag I found online. I carefully traced the pattern onto the leather and cut it out with a sharp rotary cutter. My hands were shaking a bit, not gonna lie. I mean, if I messed this part up, the whole project would be a disaster.
After cutting, it was time to sew. I don’t have one of those fancy industrial sewing machines, just my trusty old home machine. It’s a bit slow, but it gets the job done. I started by sewing the main pieces of the bag together, making sure the edges lined up perfectly. This took some time, and there were a few moments where I had to use the seam ripper – oh, the dreaded seam ripper! – but eventually, the basic shape of the bag started to come together.
Adding the Details
Once the main body of the bag was sewn, it was time to add the details. This is where I felt like a real craftsman. I attached the metal hardware, which was a bit tricky. I had to punch holes in the leather and then use pliers to secure the clasps and buckles. It was tough work, and my fingers were pretty sore afterward, but it was worth it. Seeing those shiny metal pieces on the bag made it look so much more legit.
Next, I worked on the strap. I decided to make a simple, adjustable strap using the same leather as the bag. I sewed it together, added some buckles for adjustment, and attached it to the bag. It wasn’t as fancy as the original YSL strap, but it was functional and looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.
The Final Touches
Finally, I added some finishing touches. I trimmed any loose threads, cleaned up the edges of the leather, and gave the whole bag a good polish. I even managed to emboss a little “YSL” logo on the inside of the bag, just for fun. It wasn’t perfect, but it added a nice personal touch.
The Result
And there you have it, my homemade YSL JUNE BOX BAG! It’s not an exact replica, of course, but it captures the essence of the original. It’s got that classic style, and it’s something I’m really proud of. Plus, I saved a ton of money by making it myself. This whole process took me about a week, working on it a few hours each day. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. I learned so much about working with leather and sewing, and I got a cool new bag out of it.
If you’re thinking about trying something like this, I say go for it! It’s a great way to challenge yourself and create something unique. Just be prepared for some trial and error, and don’t be afraid to get creative. Who knows, you might end up with a bag you love even more than the original!
So, that’s my story. Hope you enjoyed it! I’m not really good at writing, but I tried my best to share my little adventure. Catch you guys later!
