Alright, so I decided to remake a bag, this fancy one called the Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. Yeah, that’s a mouthful, but folks seem to like it a lot. I saw it around, thought it looked neat, figured, why not give it a shot?
First off, I started by looking at a bunch of pictures of this bag. Needed to see what it was all about, you know? It’s got this smooth, boxy shape, a flap in the front, and these rounded corners. Looks pretty slick, I gotta say. People call it a “classic style,” and I can see why.
- I gathered my materials. Needed some good leather, something that felt right. Found a nice black piece that seemed like it would do the trick.
- Then came the cutting. This was tricky. Had to make sure all the pieces were the right size and shape. Measured twice, cut once, as they say. I used a pattern to guide me, which I made after studying the bag’s design.
- Sewing was next. I don’t have one of those fancy industrial machines, just my trusty old one. It took some time, but I stitched all the pieces together, bit by bit. Had to be careful to keep the lines straight and the seams tight.
- The inside of the bag was another thing. It’s got this big compartment and a zipped pocket. I made those, too, and sewed them in. Took a while, but it was worth it to get it right.
After all the sewing, I added the hardware. There’s this metal clasp thing on the front flap. Had to attach that just right so it would close properly.
Finally, I put the strap on. This bag can be worn over the shoulder or across the body, so the strap had to be adjustable. I made it so it could be longer or shorter, depending on how you want to wear it.
Took me a good while, but I finally finished it. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It looks a lot like the real YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL, and it feels pretty sturdy. I even used it a few times, and it held up well.
Not too shabby for a homemade bag, huh?
I heard that these bags, prior to 1997 will not have a serial number. And the big guy, Yves Saint Laurent started his fashion house on December 4, 1961. That’s a long history right there. I even read somewhere that he turned trousers into a feminine look, pretty cool huh. Guess the brand costs a lot because of all that heritage stuff. I’m just happy I could make something similar without spending a fortune.
Guess this whole thing was a fun little project. Learned a lot about bag making, and ended up with something I can actually use. Might try making another one someday, maybe a different style next time. We’ll see!
